About

About this Event
The International Symposium on Nondestructive Testing in Civil Engineering (NDT-CE) is the premier international conference series dedicated to the development and application of nondestructive testing (NDT), nondestructive evaluation (NDE), and structural health monitoring (SHM) technologies for civil infrastructure.
A Global Forum for Infrastructure Assessment
Established in 1985, NDT-CE has served as a meeting place for the world's leading experts in infrastructure inspection, monitoring, diagnostics, and asset management. Over the past four decades, the symposium has helped shape the evolution of the field by promoting the exchange of scientific knowledge, practical experience, and technological innovation among researchers and practitioners worldwide.
The conference addresses a broad range of topics related to the condition assessment and performance evaluation of infrastructure systems, including bridges, buildings, transportation networks, tunnels, dams, industrial facilities, and emerging construction materials. Topics regularly featured at NDT-CE include:
Ultrasonic methods
Impact-echo and acoustic techniques
Ground-penetrating radar
Infrared thermography
Electromagnetic methods
Vision-based inspection
Robotics and autonomous inspection systems
Digital twins and smart infrastructure
Artificial intelligence and machine learning
Structural health monitoring
Infrastructure resilience and asset management
NDT-CE is distinguished by its strong integration of research and practice. The symposium provides a venue where academic researchers, infrastructure owners, government agencies, engineering consultants, equipment manufacturers, and service providers can share perspectives and collaborate on solutions to real-world challenges.
Four Decades of Innovation
Since the first symposium in 1985, NDT-CE has been hosted by organizations around the world and has earned a reputation as one of the most influential conferences in civil infrastructure assessment. Traditionally held approximately every three years, the conference has taken place in countries including Germany, France, the United States, Switzerland, and Türkiye. In 2028, Canada will host NDT-CE for the first time.
Over the years, the symposium has evolved alongside the industry. Early conferences focused primarily on established inspection methods for concrete and steel structures. More recent editions have expanded to include advanced sensing technologies, autonomous inspection platforms, structural health monitoring systems, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital asset management.
This evolution reflects the changing needs of infrastructure owners and society. As infrastructure systems become more complex and the demand for resilient, sustainable infrastructure grows, the role of advanced monitoring and diagnostic technologies continues to increase in importance.

Looking Forward
As NDT-CE enters its fifth decade, the conference remains committed to advancing the science and practice of infrastructure assessment. By bringing together experts from across disciplines and sectors, the symposium continues to foster innovation, knowledge exchange, and international collaboration in support of safer, smarter, and more sustainable infrastructure.
NDT-CE 2028 builds on this proud tradition and looks ahead to the next generation of technologies and methodologies that will define the future of civil infrastructure evaluation and management.
